Why do most SaaS PPC campaigns stall?

Most SaaS PPC campaigns stall because they optimize for the cheapest conversion the ad platform can find, which is usually a form fill your sales team cannot close.

We see the same four problems in almost every SaaS account we audit:

The platform is optimizing to leads, not pipeline.

Google and LinkedIn only learn from the conversions you send them. If a non-ICP download counts the same as a demo request from your ICP, the algorithm will find more non-ICP downloaders.

Tracking stops at the form.

Ad spend lives in Google Ads and LinkedIn Campaign Manager. Pipeline lives in your CRM. Without offline conversion imports, nobody can say which campaign produced revenue.

The funnel does not match how people buy.

A product with a free trial is forced into a demo-only funnel, or an enterprise product is sold with a trial button. Either way, volume caps out early.

A junior marketer runs the account.

The senior person who sold you the engagement shows up for the kickoff call and the quarterly review. Day-to-day decisions are made by someone learning on your budget.

What does a SaaS PPC agency do?

A SaaS PPC agency plans, builds and manages paid search and paid social campaigns for software companies, with tracking that follows each lead from the first click to a closed deal.

Our framework has four parts:

Step 1

Strategy and account architecture

We map your ICP, buying committee and sales motion first. Campaigns are split by funnel stage and offer: free trial, demo, and content offers for buyers who are not ready yet. On Google, we separate brand, category, competitor and alternative terms so each gets its own budget and bid strategy.

Step 2

Technical setup

We set up the Google tag, enhanced conversions, the LinkedIn Insight Tag and Conversions API, and Meta Pixel and CAPI. Then we connect your CRM so trial starts, SQLs and paid customers flow back to each platform as conversions. The ad platforms learn from revenue signals, not form fills.

Step 3

Creative system

We write ad copy and build creative by persona and funnel stage: responsive search ads and Performance Max on Google, Sponsored Content, Document Ads and Thought Leader Ads on LinkedIn, and static, carousel and video on Meta.

Step 4

Experimentation cadence

Every test starts with a written hypothesis and win or kill criteria. We test audiences, offers and creative on a set schedule, and we cut losing campaigns fast so budget moves to what works.

Which ad channels work best for B2B SaaS?

Google Ads captures buyers already searching for your category, LinkedIn Ads reaches a defined buying committee by job title and company, and Meta Ads remarkets to trial users and reaches smaller-business buyers at lower cost.

Most SaaS companies need two of the three. Which two depends on your buyer.

ChannelBest forRole in a SaaS funnelWhat we optimize toward
Google AdsCategories people already search forCaptures existing demand: category, competitor and "alternative to" searchesTrial starts, demo requests, SQLs
LinkedIn AdsMid-market and enterprise buyers defined by title, seniority and companyBuilds demand inside target accounts and supports ABMSQLs and pipeline from target accounts
Meta AdsSMB and prosumer buyers, and products with a free trial or self-serve planRemarkets to trial users with segmented custom audiences and scales volume with lookalikesCost per demo, cost per trial and cost per paid customer

How do you measure SaaS PPC success?

Measure SaaS PPC on SQLs, pipeline and cost per paying customer. Clicks, CTR and cost per lead are early signals, not results.

We report on every stage of your funnel and tie each one back to the campaign that produced it:

Funnel stageMetric we reportWhy it matters
ClickCost per click, CTREarly signal on audience and message fit
LeadCost per lead, lead-to-ICP match rateShows whether the targeting reaches real buyers
Trial or demoCost per trial, cost per demoThe first conversion your sales team can act on
SQLCost per SQL, MQL to SQL rateSeparates real pipeline from form fills
CustomerCost per paid customer, pipeline valueThe number that decides whether to scale

What results has Digital Trax delivered for SaaS companies?

Two examples from our SaaS work: AcuityMD grew SQLs 20% in six months, and TeamGantt booked 400+ demos at $42 per demo.

MedTech SaaS

AcuityMD: 20% more SQLs in six months for a MedTech SaaS platform

AcuityMD sells commercial intelligence software to medical device companies. The goal was more demos for the sales team from a narrow, senior audience.

We built a full-funnel program on LinkedIn Ads and Meta Ads with a separate offer for each stage, activated AcuityMD's target account list on both channels, and focused bottom-of-funnel budget on demo requests.

Result: SQLs increased 20% in six months.

"DigitalTrax has been a strong strategic partner as we scaled our demand generation efforts. Their responsiveness and deep expertise in niche markets helped us build a high-quality pipeline and uncover new growth opportunities."Brittany Macaulay, Head of Marketing, AcuityMD

Construction SaaS

TeamGantt: $42 cost per demo for a construction SaaS vertical

TeamGantt is a Gantt chart and project scheduling platform with a construction edition, and construction is its highest-LTV vertical. TeamGantt asked for Google Ads. Its SEO was already producing construction trial sign-ups, but those users were treated like every other trial and most did not know the construction edition existed.

We held off on Google Ads and built a Meta remarketing system for the construction trial users TeamGantt already had. We split them by company revenue and Procore usage, gave high-value users demo-focused creative and lower-intent users re-engagement creative, built every ad around objections mined from customer interviews and the sales team, and rebuilt Meta conversion tracking to optimize on purchases.

Result over 12 months: 400+ demos booked at $42 per demo, 1,811 free trials and 230 direct purchases.

Is Digital Trax the right SaaS PPC agency for you?

Digital Trax fits B2B SaaS companies spending $3,000 to more than $150,000 per month on ads that need paid media tied to pipeline and want a senior strategist running the account.

We are a good fit if:

  • You sell B2B software with a defined buyer, from SMB self-serve to enterprise.
  • You spend at least $3,000 per month on ads, or plan to. Each month needs enough spend to reach statistically significant results.
  • You use a CRM such as HubSpot and can share pipeline data, so we can optimize toward revenue.
  • You sell into a specialized market. Our SaaS work includes project management, MedTech, healthtech and pharma commercial intelligence software.

We are probably not the right fit if:

  • You want SEO, content or brand work as the main service. We run paid media.
  • You need results reported on clicks and impressions alone.

How is Digital Trax different from other SaaS PPC agencies?

Senior strategists build and run your campaigns. There is no handoff to a junior account manager after the sales call.

Strategy and execution from the same people.

Our founder, Shlomo, started Digital Trax after watching agencies hand new clients to junior marketers, and consultants write plans they could not execute. We do both.

You own everything.

Your ad accounts, audiences, conversion data and creative belong to your company. We work inside your accounts with admin access.

About an hour a week from your team.

A 30-minute check-in, quick creative approvals, and sales feedback on lead quality. That feedback tells us which campaigns bring pipeline.

Reporting tied to your CRM.

Every report starts with SQLs and pipeline, then works back to spend.

SaaS PPC Agency FAQs

How much does a SaaS PPC agency cost?

Cost has two parts: your ad spend and the agency's management fee. At Digital Trax, the minimum ad spend is $3,000 per month, and we recommend starting at $5,000 per month for Google Ads and $5,000 to $10,000 per month for LinkedIn Ads. Management fees are scoped to the channels and spend involved.

What is the minimum ad budget for SaaS PPC?

Our minimum is $3,000 per month in ad spend. Each month needs enough spend to produce statistically significant results, so decisions are based on data rather than guesses. LinkedIn costs more per click than Google or Meta, so LinkedIn-led programs usually need more.

Should a SaaS company start with Google Ads or LinkedIn Ads?

Start with Google Ads if buyers already search for your category, because you capture demand that exists today. Start with LinkedIn Ads if your category is new or your buyers are defined by job title and company size, because search volume will be too low. Many B2B SaaS companies run both once tracking is in place.

How long does SaaS PPC take to produce pipeline?

Expect the first 60 to 90 days to produce enough conversion data to decide where to scale. Leads and trials usually arrive in the first weeks. SQLs and pipeline take longer, because they depend on your sales cycle.

Do you optimize for free trials or demo requests?

Both, depending on how your customers buy and how close each user is to buying. Self-serve products usually do best with free trial campaigns, while enterprise products need demo requests. For TeamGantt, we sent demo-focused ads to high-value trial users and re-engagement ads to lower-intent trial users, which produced 400+ demos at $42 each.

Who owns the ad accounts and data?

You do. Your Google Ads, LinkedIn Campaign Manager and Meta ad accounts, audiences, conversion data and creative belong to your company. We work inside your accounts with admin access, so everything stays with you if we ever part ways.

Do you connect ad platforms to your CRM?

Yes. We pass ad source data into your CRM through UTM capture and hidden form fields, then send trial, SQL and customer stages back to Google, LinkedIn and Meta as conversions. This lets the platforms optimize toward pipeline instead of form fills.
